And while there are many fields that offer these opportunities, some of them have become more popular than others over time. This article will explore some of the most popular emerging scholarship fields right now and how they’re likely to grow as technology develops further.


Biotechnology is the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields. Biotechnology has been used to produce products including food, fuel, pharmaceuticals and other chemicals. The ASCE offers scholarships worth up to $5,000 each year for students pursuing careers in this discipline. You can apply if you’re currently enrolled at an accredited four-year institution or plan on enrolling within one year of applying; your GPA must be 3.0 or higher; and your major must be within the engineering field–and if it isn’t, there are still ways to get your foot in the door! In addition to scholarships from ASCE itself, some schools offer their own awards specifically targeted toward engineering majors interested in automation systems technology (AST).
